Self-Discipline

notebookI’m no prolific writer–nor blogger. Maybe because whenever I get stuck, this writer’s block kinda thing, I just stop. I don’t fight it over.

Yet, on my friend’s FB status, I found a quote by Mark Price saying that there are more people with talent instead of those with discipline, thats why the latter is better paid.

I don’t know how the real quote sounds like, I translated the above phrase from Indonesian/Bahasa.

Anyway, not that I’m saying that I’m talented or whatsoever, but I need more discipline to survive. I’ve got no boss telling me what to do, being a freelancer. That’s why I have to build this self-discipline.

Checking out on Google, I found these tips to help me be more disciplined:

  • self-disciplineStart with willpower. That means making a conscious CHOICE to take a certain action (or to avoid taking certain other actions).
  • Keep the end result in mind. This can be a photograph from a magazine, a written description of your dream, or even a written vow to yourself.
  • Repetition and reinforcement. Developing true self-discipline is an ongoing process, not a one-time event. Praise yourself and reward yourself for being able to stay aware and faithful to your long-term goal.

I love those tips. Don’t you? Especially #2. I’m going to write down what I wish to achieve by being a disciplined writer. Right now!

Ok, in a few minutes, ‘coz I have to complete this one first.

Any other suggestions, dear bloggers?
