Why do you blog?

blogHonestly, this question came to me after I decided to have a blog using my own name as the URL. I really wanted to do that but actually my mind wondered, “Why would you want to do that?”

I told my mind to just shut up and listened to my heart which was at the time saying, “Just get one!”

And I got one. Well, two, indeed. One in Bahasa (Indonesian), the other in English (the one you are currently reading).

Funnily, there was a friend of mine in Multiply asking herself why she didn’t blog the way she had used to and what her reason to blog was actually. And, guess what, I found the answer of my above question right before I found her journal.

dotcomI wanted to have a blog of my own using my name because I just felt like it. It made and still makes me happy and I feel fulfilled and great. Because, I’m doing what pleases my heart and soul. Not to mention, my mind because I can share what I think with the world–whether the world cares or not about what I think as that’s the rule in the cyber world, isn’t it?

Anyway, here I am, blogging while my husband is out there (smoking I guess, I allow him to do it as long as he does it out of the house and only once or twice the most a day) and my daughter is sleeping.

And, I am contented. I love writing. And, I love blogging. Frankly speaking, I’m better sharing my thoughts in written words than saying it. I know, that’s not good. I’ll be trying to work on it so I can state them better orally.

You know what, I’m glad now that there are many people in my country blogging. At school, we didn’t write that much (I don’t know about those kids nowadays, I guess education is getting better tough so I assume they write more now than I did back then when I was at school). And, blogging is a great way to exercise writing.

When I started blogging in 2004, I just wrote. I didn’t care how my writings turned out to be. But, as time went by, I felt like it got better and better. People were commenting, replying to my journals, stating their mind on what I wrote. Those, in a way, shaped my writings. And, I have to thank them for that.

Those people are now my friends. Another wonderful benefit of blogging. You can have lots of friends, or even create network.

So, not only blogging makes me happy and educates me, but it also helps me make friends (some great ones, wow!).

Oh, how I love blogging!
